| On Sunday September 25th 2022, the Somers Fire District held their annual inspection. During the inspection all of the SFD apparatus and the manpower from the SVFD assemble to be "judged." The Board of Fire Commissioners, dignitaries, and the Fairchester Hose Haulers parade judges come and inspect the cleanliness of the apparatus. Over the years this has become a competition among the individual firehouses. The annual inspection is also when we present awards for the previous year to honor the accomplishments of our members. This year awards were presented covering the year 2021.
The Inspection results are as follows:
Class A- Engine 188 (Amawalk Firehouse)
Class B- Ambulance 80B5 (EMS)
Members were also received awards for outstanding service to the department as chosen by the SVFD awards committee. These included:
Most Improved- Bridget Foley
Top Responder- Jules Aiello and Rocco Latella (tied)
Fire Member of the Year- Don Spinelli
EMS Member of the Year- John Wahlers
Chief's Award- Evan Kader
SVFD members also received a unit award for the response to the aftermath of Hurricane Ida and mutual aid response to Mamaroneck. This includes the following members:
