Within the last 24 hours, the SVFD has responded to over 40 calls. We thank Yorktown FD and Katonah FD for assisting us with the numerous calls in Somers last night.

Another huge thank you to Somers Highway Department, State DOT, and NYSEG with assisting clearing roads for us to respond to emergency calls. They are still in the process of clearing roads. Many roads are still blocked with trees and wires down. Please be patient! DO NOT GO NEAR TREES AND WIRES DOWN! Power lines may still be energized, it can be dangerous if you go near downed wires. Keep your distance. If a road is blocked off, do not break the barrier and drive through it.. it’s blocked off for your safety.

If you are using a generator, it is recommended to place it safely away from the house, windows and doors. This will help prevent carbon monoxide entering the house. When refueling your generator, this should be done when it is off and cool, not while running.

Stay safe everyone!
