Clean Your Chimney

With winter once again bearing down upon us, now is the perfect time to clean your chimney. It's one of the best and easiest ways to prevent fires. The SVFD has already extinguished 3 chimney fires this month. Here are a few other tips to ensure a safe and warm season for your chimney.

Clean and inspect your chimney annually
Build small fires
Use seasoned hardwoods
Never use paper or combustible liquids in your fireplace
Use a chimney liner
Install a chimney cap
Ensure good air supply
