Assistant Chief Lucia (Car 2442) responded within minutes, and requested a working fire assignment (10-75). Upon arrival, Car 2442 established command and reported a 2 story wood frame residential with fire throughout the structure. Somers firefighters and Mutual Aid crews quickly arrived and began an aggressive interior attack. Multiple lines were deployed to attempt to bring the fire under control. A Mayday was transmitted for a firefighter that fell through the first floor into the basement. The firefighters were quickly extricated from the building and immediately received EMS care. Luckily there were no injures. Due to this incident, and the diminishing integrity of the building, all units were ordered to exterior operations to fight the fire. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Crews operated for approximately 6 hours before returning to service.
