2023 has been another record-breaking year for the SVFD! In total, Somers Fire/EMS responded to 2,942 calls for service (687 Fire calls, and 2,255 EMS calls). The Somers Fire District remains one of the busiest agencies in Northern Westchester County.
The Somers Volunteer Fire Department is unique as we are a fire department that is also a BLS transport agency. The Somers Fire District and Westchester EMS (WEMS) have been partners for approximately 10 + years, providing the Somers Community with a 24 hour, 365 days a year, ambulance crew. However, today marks a new year, and a new beginning. Due to the high demand and increase in EMS calls, we now have TWO paid ambulance crews instead of one. We will still have one 24 hour ambulance crew from Westchester EMS, but now we are adding a second BLS crew. The second paid ambulance crew will work Mondays through Fridays during the day time to ensure patient care is covered. Somers Volunteers work side by side with WEMS to ensure the best patient care possible for our community.
The members of the SVFD work hard everyday continuing the tradition of 100% volunteer fire service here in Somers. This is a huge savings to taxpayers of the Somers Fire District. But, we need your help! We need more volunteers! Our call volume is on the rise, and we are looking for more volunteers to join.
Some notable fire call types for 2023: Reported Structure Fires: 38 Motor Vehicle Accidents: 103 Motor Vehicle Accidents with Extrication: 12 Motor Vehicle Fires: 7 Automatic Fire/CO Alarms: 357 Technical Rescues: 11 Mutual Aid Fire: 26 Animal Rescues: 3 Brush Fires: 14
Thank you to all of the members of the SVFD for their hard work and dedication in 2023. We look forward to 2024 and serving the Town of Somers. Happy New Year! |
