Nationally across the United States, Fire Prevention will be honored this week, October 6th through October 12th. During this week, known as Fire Prevention Week, the goal is to raise awareness to ensure your home and family is safe incase of a fire. Fire Prevention Week is observed each year during the week of October 9th in commemoration of the Great Chicago Fire, which began in October 1871. This fire caused a lot of damage to the city of Chicago. This year's theme is "Smoke alarms: Make them work for you!” The members in the Somers Volunteer Fire Department spend countless hours serving our community. We thank our members for all of their hard work and dedication! Over the next week, be on the lookout for daily posts highlighting Somers Fire, our operations, and tips for fire prevention!
