Description: Today at 5:59 pm, Somers Fire was dispatched to Route 202 in front of Somers Fire House for a reported van on fire with acetylene gas tanks inside the van. Somers House currently is having renovations done. Due to this, fire trucks from that house have been disbursed to other fire houses in Somers. Units arrived on location to find a fully involved van fire, with confirmed acetylene tanks off gassing. Upon arrival, Somers Units stretched a hose line and extinguished the main body of the fire. Even with the main body of fire contained, a hose line flowed water onto the off gassing tanks until they were able to be removed from the van. Route 202 was closed during this time. The road re-opened when Somers Fire Units went back into service, and the vehicle was flat bedded away.
